5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) is derived from the essential amino acid, tryptophan, 5-HTP is naturally present in high protein foods and in the seeds of the African plant, Griffonia Simplicifolia. In the body, 5-HTP is converted into the hormones Serotonin and Melatonin.
